The Marketing
and Supply Chain Coordinator
’s
work will include identifying and reducing barriers in local seafood markets,
and forging new market relationships, opportunities, and sales for the Monterey
Bay groundfish and other seafood sectors in the region, statewide, and
nationally. The Marketing and Supply Chain Coordinator is a full-time position and will be the heart
of MBFT’s new “fish
hub” initiative, which aims to create new, premium markets
for local seafood in order to help ensure the viability, longevity, and growth
of sustainable commercial fishing and seafood businesses in and around Monterey
Bay.


The Marketing and Supply Chain Coordinator is a newly
created position, reporting to the Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust’s Executive
Director and will be based in Monterey, California.

Key Responsibilities

Strong
candidates for this position will thrive if they’re able to wear many hats,
roll up their sleeves and get dirty, and keep many irons in the fire. Equal
parts relationship builder, logistics coordinator, broker, supply chain problem
solver, influencer, and seafood storyteller, the Marketing and Supply Chain Coordinator must be a champion of local food and local seafood,
effective with multiple and diverse stakeholders, trustworthy and dependable,
skilled at customer service, and confident and comfortable out on the wharf,
behind the wheel, and in a range of settings from board rooms to cutting rooms.

·       Spark, coordinate, and maintain strong,
lasting, and mutually beneficial seafood supply chain relationships that
generate seafood market transactions, and that include fishermen, unloaders,
packers, cold storage operators, processors, distributors, wholesalers, and
volume seafood buyers

·       Coordinate logistics, facilitate or
make deliveries, and/or leverage regional infrastructure to move fish from
boats to markets

·       Communicate regularly with commercial fishermen
to align fishing trips with market demand, advocate
for best-in-class fishing methods that protect ocean habitat and lay groundwork
for long term, high volume, stable market relationships

·       Bring to life a strong brand identity for
source-identified Monterey Bay seafood by promoting the story of Monterey Bay,
its fishermen, and their fishing methods

·       Begin planning with MBFT leadership for
long term matching of supply and demand, leveraging the Monterey Bay Fisheries
Trust’s groundfish trawl individual fishing quota bank’s current and projected
future holdings

·       Convene, facilitate, and
“translate” among diverse stakeholders from disparate sectors (industry,
environmental non-profits, and government)

·       Collaborate, coordinate, and align
efforts with MBFT’s partner organizations and initiatives

·       Write and distribute media releases and
contribute to the organization’s grant writing efforts

·       Develop the metrics of success and a process
for tracking progress, including sales, and report to MBFT leadership regularly

Requirements

·       At least four years of work experience in
food sales, brokering, marketing, brand development, distribution, value chain
coordination, or commercial fishing, and Bachelor’s Degree preferred

·       Proficient understanding of and work
experience with food and/or seafood supply chains

·       Knowledge of, passion for, and/or
interest in fisheries sustainability, fishing communities, and seafood markets

·       Flexibility – willingness to take on a
range of roles, work early morning hours from time to time, make periodic
seafood deliveries if necessary, travel when needed, and generally do what it
takes to ensure success

·       Proven ability to overcome obstacles in a
collaborative manner

·       Highly motivated self-starter capable of
creative thinking and focused on outcomes

·       Entrepreneurial approach to problem
solving

·       Ability to ask excellent questions and
actively listen to the answers

·       Ability to plan strategically and
tactically for the immediate and long term simultaneously—nimbleness
to take opportunities as they arise, while maintaining a clear long-term vision

·       Focused on measurable results

·       Strong business and/or project management
skills

·       Outstanding interpersonal and influencing
skills

·       Excellent verbal and written
communication skills

·       Experience facilitating, convening,
engaging, and communicating with diverse stakeholders

·       Demonstrated computer literacy on
multiple platforms, including social media

·       Valid driver’s license with satisfactory
driving record

Desired Qualifications

·       Expertise in sustainable fisheries
and/or the West Coast seafood industry

·       Existing network and contacts in the
West Coast seafood industry

·       Familiarity with traceability platforms
or strategies
