The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) is a dynamic national trade association representing the supermarket industry on the cutting-edge of food and consumer trends. We are looking for a Senior Manager who can initiate, develop and launch this new program to include helping develop the services offered, sales and marketing strategies for our new and exciting small companies program.

Our target company size is 5-50 employees and $500,000- $5 million in revenue. The program will help niche food brands prepare to reach grocery distribution. Our goal is to prep the companies so they can grow at a sustainable rate and jump right over the “Valley of Death” to the other side expanding their distribution.

In this diverse position, you will:

  1. Work with the Vice President, Industry Events & Marketing to formulate and execute short- and – long-term organizational and program-related plans and budgets (e.g., create pricing models  and customer service plans; develop an online subscription-based education, resources and networking website; and work with program partners to create, implement and evaluate marketing and promotional plan.
  2. Manage marketing and sales recruitment campaigns to include: developing and executing marketing plans; manage budgets and human capital to ensure success; create strategies for building awareness of the program and build program awareness at FMI signature events and conferences.  Conduct performance analysis to identify opportunities for improvement of marketing plans with the various programs to serve food startups, we desire to build a strong referral network.
  3. Develop a robust (yet realistic) sales plan and make outbound sales calls to grow subscribers
  4. Manage, lead and grow a group of internet subject-matter-experts (SME’s) who will serve as coaches and advisors to program customers.
  5. Oversee the creation of content and educational materials that will serve as resources for program subscribers.
  6. Assist in budget preparation, management and tracking.

 

Candidates who will succeed in this role will have:

  • A college degree and/or coursework in business administration, marketing/sales or other related degree
  • A solid marketing and sales background
  • Five plus years of relevant experience and a proven track record listening to the needs of small companies and formulating strategies to help them succeed
  • Previous experience with product development and retail/start-up companies is preferred
  • A solid marketing and sales background
  • A firm understanding of the food distribution process
  • Strong business acumen with an ability to critique new programs and opportunities and quickly offer suggestions and program enhancements
  • Superior relationship and team-building experience working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong team orientation with a preference to work within and lead teams towards success
  • Expert-level written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills
  • A flexible and open mindset
  • Strong time management, organization and project management skills
  • Expertise in using the entire Microsoft Office Suite (2010) – Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Be able to travel on behalf of the organization as needed
