The Senior Director of Food Science is responsible for leading the food science department in its action, growth, and R&D. With an extensive food science background and in-depth knowledge of meat science, this individual will be the driving force of R&D. The Senior Director of Food Science will also manage small- and large-scale production runs, interface with ingredient suppliers, co-manufacturers, R&D teams and customers.

Tasks include:

  • Oversee product developers at the company in a managerial role.

  • Design experimental plans and direct bench scale product development.

  • Lead the product development process from bench-top to production scale.

  • Improve existing products or processes.

  • Work closely with customer R&D teams to effectively utilize BMC ingredients and create custom products.

  • Direct analytical processes in the lab and with external labs to conduct analytical testing as needed for QA/QC.

  • Perform a broad spectrum of tasks in the lab including experimental planning and execution, basic analytical protocol, generating SOPs, analysis, and more.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and food safety GMPs.

  • Maintain detailed lab records and data. Generate quality experimental reports.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or extensive experience in food science or a related field preferred.

  • Vast experience in product development and in-depth knowledge of meat or meat-analogue products.

  • In-depth knowledge of food processing.

  • A history of being an effective, detailed, communicative, and passionate person and are proven in your ability to create and deliver quality work. 

  • Experience implementing and organizing scalable systems.

  • Extremely collaborative and able to communicate and provide feedback.

  • Experience with SOP’s, GMP’s, SQF, ISO, FDA, USDA, FSIS, FSMA, PCQI, HACCP, and/or GFSI strongly preferred.
