The Charlie Cart Project seeks an Operations Manager to help take its nutrition education program to scale. Reporting to the Executive Director (ED) and serving as a member of the Management Team, this position’s primary responsibility is ensuring organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the organization’s operational functions. Working with the Director and Board of Directors, the position also contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices.

General Responsibilities Include:

  1. Workplace Productivity: Implement scalable processes, incl. workflow/CRM systems.
  2. Supply Chain: Improve and manage logistics and distribution of goods and services, incl.: manufacturing the cart, sourcing and packaging the kit of equipment and curriculum.
  3. Support Services: Develop and manage HR, IT, Financial systems, and ensure communication between functions.

 

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Production

  1. Oversee production process end-to-end including sourcing, packing, and shipping of product nationwide.
  2. Manage manufacturer and other vendor relationships. Vendors include production, shipping, 3PL, and engineers.
  3. Scaling up the operations and integrating cost efficiencies as we scale.
  4. Monitor performance and implement improvements.
  5. Ensure quality of products through QC process.
  6. Refine sales systems, including invoicing, sales cycle, and id-ing marketing needs.
  7. Set up customer service system, including warranty management, parts replacement program, and other systems as needed to support Charlie Cart sales and programs.

 

Financial Management

  1. Together with Executive Director, develop and manage to the organization’s annual budget.
  2. Together with Executive Director, develop financial systems to ensure efficient and effective data capture around fundraising, sales, billables and receivables.
  3. Produce monthly and quarterly assessments and forecasts of organization’s financial performance against budget, financial and operational goals.
  4. Oversee short and long-term financial and managerial reporting.
  5. Meet regularly with Executive Director around fiscal planning.

 

Support Services

  1. Monitor, manage and improve the efficiency of support services such as IT, HR, Accounts and Finance.
  2. Facilitate coordination and communication between support functions.
  3. Establish organizational structures to optimize efficiency.
  4. Delegate tasks and accountabilities as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the work and the organization
  • Sense of humor
  • Proactive and motivated self-starter; Creative approach to problem solving
  • Incredibly organized and detail oriented
  • At least 3 years experience in operations or supply chain/supporting a product
  • Comfortable with start up environment, and with wearing many hats
  • Expertise in Excel, Proficient in SalesForce or other CRM
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Expertise in budget development and oversight
  • Strong, collaborative leader and manager, able to work well with a diverse work force and customer base; and able to delegate responsibilities effectively

The program includes tools, lessons, training, and a compact mobile kitchen on wheels, designed to help kids develop healthy eating habits for a lifetime. The Project’s K-5 curriculum is aligned to Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, and provides a strong foundation of cooking skills, in addition to an understanding of the connections between food, health and the environment.
