We are looking for a talented storyteller with a background in
public relations, communications, and journalism, with a passion for
environmental sustainability and the food system, to oversee corporate communications
at Just Salad.

You will serve as our in-house public relations lead, creating
press plans and vetting interview and speaking opportunities for our CEO and
Chief Sustainability Officer. Our team is small but mighty, and we are
energized by wearing many hats & adapting to a rapidly evolving landscape.

This role is perfect for someone who can work independently and
with a team. The ideal candidate has impeccable writing, storytelling, and
presentation skills and is organized, personable, and comfortable working
directly with company leadership.

This position is virtual and on-site in our NYC office.

Reports to: Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO)


Responsibilities 

 Strategy

  • Cultivates
    a deep understanding of Just Salad sustainability initiatives and other
    business activities. Identifies opportunities to tell a news story and
    develops comprehensive press plans.
  • Provides
    keen, well-researched insights into where and how Just Salad initiatives
    fit into the narrative and crafts media strategy accordingly.
  • Reads
    the news obsessively and identifies opportunities for Just Salad to
    contribute to the public conversation; surfaces earned and paid content
    opportunities.

 

Media Relations 

  • Writes
    pitch-perfect press releases and manages distribution over newswires.
  • Coordinates
    internal thought leadership projects — e.g., video interviews with brand
    partners during Climate Week — end-to-end. 
  • Cultivates
    relationships with journalists covering the restaurant and sustainability
    beats.
  • Organizes,
    maintains, and builds press lists.
  • Vets,
    coordinates and schedules media interviews for management team and all
    follow-ups with reporters.

 

Honors, Awards & Thought Leadership

  • Applies
    for industry awards recognizing Just Salad technology, sustainability and
    workplace initiatives
  • Circulates
    JS coverage via internal and external channels as appropriate
  • Vets
    speaking invitations for the executive team

Skills & Experience

  1. 3-5 years’ experience
    working in a PR or similar role
  2. Degree in liberal arts, journalism, or communications
  3. Top-notch writing and verbal communication skills
  4. Media relations experience at a public relations firm, nonprofit organization, or other business
  5. Strong network of contacts within the journalism community
  6. Demonstrable interest in environmental sustainability, the restaurant industry, and the food system is strongly preferred
