The Head of Engineering will help lead Project Well’s transformative impact on the “food-as-medicine” market, driving the overall technical vision and execution of the company’s platform to build a technology solution that will ultimately impact hundreds of millions of at-risk Americans. With modern technology and a patent pending, Project Well is transforming the way health plans engage and treat targeted high risk individuals.

Responsibilities 

Reporting to the Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Lauren Driscoll, the Head of Engineering will be responsible for defining the engineering function within Project Well, launching and scaling the B2B2C platform from 0 to 1 and building the culture and structure of the technology team and recruiting early technical talent. 

Key responsibilities of the role include: 

  • Build and scale a marketplace product that is based on a validated business idea serving health plans, food vendors, consumers, and healthcare systems. 

  • Establish, execute, and achieve Project Well’s technical vision and scaling milestones in strategic alignment with business objectives, user and client experience. 

  • Develop and execute the technology roadmap for a comprehensive solution that addresses customer needs in a scalable and profitable manner. 

  • Identify, compare, select, and implement technology solutions to meet current and future needs.

  • Serve as Chief Architect and lead all solution architecture design decisions for Project Well’s digital platform. 

  • Work in tandem with the product team to identify and road map digital strategy, both to optimize services and to identify opportunities ripe for innovation. 

  • Encourage a data-driven and continuous improvement culture to improve the efficiency, scalability, stability, and security. 

  • Champion and ensure engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement. 

  • Build and manage a world-class, full stack development team by fostering a culture of excellence, mentoring and developing talent and recruiting strong, well-rounded software engineers.

  • Implement a rigorous Quality Assurance function from test-driven development through to User Acceptance Testing 

  • Ensure digital security and healthcare compliance of the platform for all members and patients 

Skills & Experience

  • A proven engineering leader with experience building multi-sided marketplaces or similar B2B2C technology solutions within a dynamic growth-stage environment. 

  • Strong understanding of or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience. 

  • Exceptional technical capability, with deep knowledge of and experience with modern software development practices and technologies. 

  • Player-coach engineering leader with the ability to commit production code. 

  • Experience with modern technology and the latest open source distributed systems and architecture; experience with AWS, Azure, Docker, continuous integration/deployment, data engineering/science and modern development languages such as Javascript, Python, ReactJS, Node.js. 

  • Passionate about building and scaling early stage start-ups and leading them through rapid growth.

  • Ability to make technical decisions with the lens of what is best for a fast-growing startup.

  • Experienced in building complex technical solutions with deep knowledge of key architectural principles found in highly scalable systems. 

  • Strong computer-science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval.

  • Experience building technical strategy and understand technical tradeoffs and risks.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to create alignment with other leaders and decision makers in a fast-moving environment.
