ABOUT US
We are Spero Foods (www.sperofoods.co), a data-driven food company that is changing the future of food by creating delicious, nutritious, and sustainable cheese and egg products from plants (not animals). We are seeking a Food Science Intern to start immediately and help us grow. You will be helping us create and optimize revolutionary, patent-pending products that are transforming the food industry.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designing and executing experiments pertaining to shelf-life extension
- Working with processing plants to test new processing methods
- Working with CEO & data scientist to design and execute experiments pertaining to flavor profile optimization
- Designing and executing experiments for textural improvements and desired physical properties
- Sourcing and corresponding with vendors relevant to the needs of experiments
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep understanding of organic and general chemistry
- Deep understanding of biology
- Strong knowledge and expertise in food science (flavor, shelf-life, microbiology, fermentation, texture)
- 1 year or more of lab work related to food science or a similar/related area of study
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep understanding of fermentation & microbiology
- Deep understanding of protein behavior in food applications
- Passion for sustainability, healthier food and food systems, and/or animal welfare
