Straus Family Creamery seeks an enthusiastic, high achieving sales professional who wants to join in our efforts to create dynamic changes in our food and agriculture system. The Straus Family Creamery Mission: To help sustain family dairy farms in Marin and Sonoma Counties by providing high quality, minimally processed organic dairy products. To support family farming and revitalize rural communities everywhere through advocacy and education.

Role Objective: The Field Sales Representative (FSR) is responsible for growing sales and increasing Straus Family Creamery’s (SFC) brand presence in the marketplace by cultivating & strengthening relationships with SFC’s existing foodservice customers and identifying, qualifying, and referring new prospective customers to our distributor sales teams. The FSR is a brand ambassador to our customers, both large and small, and our eyes and ears on the street regarding consumer/business trends, competitive information, and overall opportunities in the marketplace.

 

After an initial training period in our Petaluma office, this position will be based out of a remote/home office based in the San Francisco area with 75-80% time spent in the field. Daily presence in the NorCal area is required, with most time being spent in San Francisco, East Bay, the North Bay (primarily Sonoma and Marin), and Silicon Valley.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Selling – identify new prospects through research and cold calling. Qualify potential accounts, both individually and in partnership with distributors to grow sales & market share. Regularly provide leads to distributors, track conversion and follow up to measure results.
  2. Develop relationships with SFC customers, and identify cross-sell opportunities. Provide customer service as needed and/or facilitate service requests with distributors.
  3. Ensure that our customers understand what sets SFC and our product line apart
  4. Develop relationships with distributor sales representatives, providing education and training on product knowledge and SFC mission (presentations, ride-alongs, etc)
  5. Represent SFC at trade shows, tabling events and other marketing events. Leverage tastings and events in key accounts to drive consumer awareness of SFC brand.
  6. Keep track of customer visits, market data, and interactions using Salesforce and meet regularly with Director of Business Development to review progress against goals.
  7. Identify and recommend partnership marketing opportunities

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of outside sales experience, calling directly on prospects/customers and closing business
  • Prior experience working in or selling to culinary professionals in the foodservice industry
  • Goal-oriented, revenue-focused individual who can quickly establish relationships for a growth-oriented sales strategy.
  • Proven results using value-based strategies (vs. cost-based) to sell products to food industry businesses
  • Business acumen €“ Understands the economics of running a business in differing scenarios (e.g., restaurants vs. corporate cafés) and can discuss pricing, product margins and discounting with distributors and customers
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills
  • A passionate advocate for food and cooking
  • Experience with Salesforce, preferred
  • Reliable transportation, with current registration and fully insured; ability to drive to and from accounts daily, required
  • Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record, required

 

Physical Requirements

  • Comfortable with daily, extended periods of sitting car traveling in and around the SF/ Bay Area
  • Frequent and sometimes extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking
  • Occasional periods of climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and stooping, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, hands, and fingers. €“ Repetitive at times
  • Ability to work on a computer and/or tablet and look at a monitor or screens for extended periods of time
  • The senses of being able to see, hear and have full power of speech, required
  • The ability to climb and balance is essential
  • Ability to provide work in varying outdoor temperatures, including in extremely hot or inclement weather
  • Ability to work in cold, freezing, wet, and humid environments
  • Ability to climb stairs and balance
  • Ability to lift, hold and/or carry 50 pounds of product, unassisted
  • This position works remotely
