About the Role

We’re now looking for an experienced Maintenance & Facilities Technician to fit seamlessly into our mission-driven, busy team. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of direct maintenance & facilities experience and is ready to lead this new position with enthusiasm, knowledge, ability and a no-task-too-small attitude.

This position is responsible for managing our production facilities and personally conducting installations, repairs, maintenance and upkeep of the company’s farming equipment. Qualified candidates have extensive experience repairing and maintaining mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems and are able to plan, manage and execute on multiple projects at once. This person will also be responsible for inventory management, permitting, as well as planning and scheduling routine work, including both short- and long-term projects. The right person will also bring a “safety-first” mentality.

This role will report directly to the Farm Manager and requires cross-functional collaboration between multiple departments, including with our Next-Gen Farmers and production & engineering departments, to establish & maintain a first-class production environment.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Repairing & Maintaining farm & production equipment

    • Includes the implementation of a regular maintenance schedule

    • General cleaning and organization

  • Campus Security & Safety

    • Possess a “safety first” mentality in all work & projects

    • Ensure our production facilities are safe for both our plants and employees

  • Legal & Food Safety Compliance

    • Follow and maintain accurate records and logs for repairs and cleaning

  • Coordinate/oversee temporary labor for one-off projects

  • Coordinate/oversee long-term facilities projects

  • Inventory management

  • Sanitation

  • Creating scalable processes including a “Daily Facilities Checklist”

  • Prepare & store tools, equipment, supplies for production activities

  • Ability to be on-call and/or staggered shifts (comes in early, stays late, weekend shifts)

  • Floating labor for harvest, transplanting, seeding

Experience and Qualifications

  • Relevant hands-on maintenance & facilities experience, including professional experience with mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems

  • Proven ability to take direction and meet required deadlines

  • Proven track record of thriving in an ever changing dynamic environment

  • General knowledge of tools and related safety procedures

  • Experience with or general understanding of standard food safety practices

  • High level of integrity with strong emphasis on result oriented outcomes

  • Warehouse experience a plus

  • BIG PLUS: Fan of local, real food & excited to transform the industrial food system

Please note, this is a physical job, so the right candidate should be able to lift 40 lbs and comfortable standing for long hours.

This position is full-time, on our Brooklyn farming campus. The full compensation package includes mid-level salary, healthcare, and other benefits – including as many locally grown greens as you can possibly eat.


We’re looking for an immediate hire with an ideal start date before the end of March 2019.
