The Executive Director role
The Executive Director of CHiPS will ensure that this community-based organization continues its unwavering commitment to addressing food and housing insecurity. The Executive Director has lead responsibility for strategy, program, operations, community/volunteer relations, fundraising, and financial management. The primary role of the Executive Director will be to:
Oversee strategy, program, operations, community/volunteer relations, fundraising, and financial management;
Manage a team of staff, and as needed clarify roles and delegate. Must be comfortable working in a unionized environment;
Report to the Board of Directors with program updates, financial and operational indicators, organizational opportunities, and strategic recommendations;
Continue the work of building a diverse board of directors, representative of CHiPS community of clients, donors, volunteers and partner organizations;
Maintain and cultivate relationships with CHiPS volunteers, partnering organizations, and funders;
Manage the financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for CHiPS, ensuring that appropriate internal financial controls are in place;
Oversee the implementation of CHiPS’ marketing, communications, and fundraising strategy together with with the Director of Development and the Board;
Act as the principal spokesperson to promote and advocate for the work of CHiPS and for solutions to the problems of homelessness and food insecurity;
Identify funding and grant-seeking opportunities, and in close partnership with the Director of Development and the Board, lead the fundraising for the organization. Building support from government will be among the fundraising priorities.
Oversee systems for tracking resident and guest outcomes, volunteers and fundraising.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be:
Passionate, energetic and committed to the cause of food and housing insecurity;
A “doer and fixer”: prepared, able, and excited to shape the strategic, operational, and fundraising alignment of an organization which is poised for growth;
Committed to racial, religious, socio-economic, and other diverse identities as well as able to demonstrate comfort and competence working with and leading a racially-diverse staff and community and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within CHiPS;
Welcoming of full collaboration with the Board, staff and community members;
Authentic, ethical, and mission-driven;
Experienced leading community-based efforts;
Effective in publicity and public affairs, either directly as the public face of CHiPS or to manage appropriate spokespeople. Be a welcoming public face to CHiPS guests.
Excellent at creating narrative presentations to internal and external stakeholders;
Able to navigate relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including volunteers, staff, Board, public and private stakeholders, and business and religious communities; and
Bringing executive-level experience within a nonprofit. A master’s degree in human services or nonprofit management or business or equivalent experience.
Salary: $100,000 – $110,000 commensurate with demonstrated experience.
This position offers one remote work day a week. Benefits: A generous package including but not limited to 4 weeks vacation, health insurance including vision and dental, 15 holidays/personal days plus the week between Christmas and New Year’s off, and a 403B retirement plan with CHiPS contribution.
